School of Translation
The Collège universitaire de Saint-Boniface is the only university in Western Canada to offer undergraduate instruction in French in the field of translation. Both the Honours B.A. and the Certificate* programs concentrate on translation from English to French. They emphasize hands-on experience and offer students the possibility of work placement in a translation service within the federal or provincial government or a private office. Full command of both French and English is essential to undertake studies in Translation at CUSB, and learning a third or fourth language is highly recommended. Students in the Honours Bachelor’s program may apply to study abroad for a year in Belgium, Spain, Germany or France. What a truly rewarding experience for a novice translator! State-of-the-art subtitling equipment and an interpreters’ booth contribute to making the School of Translation at CUSB the most dynamic and best equipped in Canada.
*The Certificate in Translation can be done entirely online.
Career Options: translation, technical writing, journalism, advertising, foreign affairs, international business, library science, interpretation, subtitling and dubbing of films.
You may also apply to study in a foreign country for a year in an affiliated translation facility.
