Faculty of Education

If you are thinking about a teaching career, the Faculty of Education at CUSB is the place to be. It is the only institution in the province mandated by the Manitoba government to train individuals seeking to teach in French. You will be qualified to teach in the French First Language, French Immersion and Core French programs, and will be among the most sought-after teachers on the market. Also, the Faculty blends theoretical instruction with extended practical classroom experience, placing our students in “real world” teaching environments alongside experienced professionals.

Entrance Requirements

Before you can apply to the Faculty of Education B.Ed. program, you must have a bachelor’s degree. Degrees in Arts, Science, Physical Education, Human Ecology and Music are the most common. You should also be sure to have enough credits in two teachable subject areas to be able to declare a teachable major and a teachable minor.

Undergraduate Program

Bachelor of Education
The Faculty of Education offers a two-year After-Degree Bachelor of Education program to students who already hold a first university degree.
First Year
In their first year, students choose between two streams of study, early and middle years (kindergarten through grade 8) and senior years (grades 9 through 12). Whichever you choose, your training will provide a sound theoretical and practical base. In your first year, most of your courses will take place at CUSB.
Second Year
Students in their second year shift their focus from theory to practical application, and spend most of their time in actual classroom settings applying what they have learned in their first year. This approach allows students to perfect their personal, interpersonal, linguistic and teaching skills so as to enter the job market fully prepared. The result is a balance of theory and practice which has earned praise from many of Manitoba’s school administrators who recognize that CUSB graduates are among the best qualified.

Graduate Programs (Post-Baccalaureate Certificate)

Courses are offered in the following areas:

  • Counselling
  • Inclusive Education
  • School Administration
  • Teaching Basic French
  • Language, Literacy and Curriculum

The Faculty also offers all the courses required to obtain the Special Education Certificate, the School Administrators’ (Level 1) Certificate and the Principals’ (Level 2) Certificate.

Master’s in Education

The Master’s in Education allows experienced teachers to consolidate theoretical and practical knowledge with respect to school administration, inclusive education, counselling, language, literacy and curriculum.

CUSB’s Faculty of Education offers students the possibility of completing, entirely online, a Master’s Degree in Education specializing in School Administration.
